Projects
All projects implement awareness to engage stakeholders and capacity building to foster the environmental sector in Ethiopia.
Monitoring & Research
In order to identify shifts in status and threats affecting wolf populations and to develop solutions for conservation challenges, it is essential to have a thorough understanding of the species and its ecological context. To accomplish this, the EWCP collaborates with Monitors and Wolf Ambassadors throughout the Ethiopian highlands and engages both national and international students in research focused on key areas of study.
One Health
One Health is a holistic approach grounded in the understanding that the well-being of humans, domesticated animals, wildlife, and ecosystems is interlinked. By adopting a One Health perspective, we collaborate with various partners to create effective solutions addressing the risks diseases present to wolves.
Biodiversity Friendly Futures
The loss and degradation of habitats in the Ethiopian highlands pose a significant threat to both endemic wildlife and the livelihoods of local communities. Since 2016, EWCP has been collaborating closely with these communities to develop opportunities that enable both people and wildlife to prosper. The ongoing engagement of local authorities and community members, along with the efforts of local Wolf Ambassadors, has been essential to our success in launching sustainable livelihood initiatives.
Living with Wolves
Our Living with Wolves (LwW) project champions awareness and behavioural change to tackle daily conflicts that threaten wolf survival. LwW was set up with the objective of engaging with communities living inside and along the buffer zones of Ethiopian wolf habitat to change their attitudes towards this iconic species of the Afroalpine.
Conservation Translocations
A conservation translocation refers to the deliberate relocation and release of an animal, aimed primarily at enhancing the species’ conservation status either locally or globally. In the case of Ethiopian wolves, this entails transferring wolves from thriving, stable packs into areas historically inhabited by their kind, thereby establishing new populations or augmenting existing ones.
Your support keeps us going
Together we can do this by strengthening our core projects: Monitoring & Research, One Health, Living with Wolves, Biodiversity Friendly Futures & Conservation Translocations
Together we can save Ethiopian wolves from extinction.
